Hi! I'm Starla, the part-timer here at KCRN. I started off as an intern here in the Fall of 2009. It was actually a Godsend that I came! A friend of mine suggested that I intern at a local radio station. After he informed me that we had a Christian station here, I thought that was a great idea!
I contacted the staff, came in for an interview, and started interning two days later. I had never worked in radio before, so I was a little nervous, and it was a lot to learn, but it's so much fun!
After my internship, they decided to keep me around. I help out in the production studio, editing programs, putting weekly programs into the computers, and just helping things play along smoothly. I couldn't be happier to be a part of the KCRN family!
I graduated from Snyder High School. I am currently a student at Angelo State University. I'm working on getting a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Concentration in voice and a minor in Spanish. I love to sing and play guitar. I'm also currently learning piano, which is a blast! I write songs for God and hope to one day be able to share them with the world!
Favorite Verses: Philippians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." In my experience, this verse has always proved to be true. And for a girl with dreams as big as mine, God's strength is definitely a great help! Ephesians 2:10. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." the word "workmanship" is translated from the word poeima, which can be compared to poem. Bein a songwriter and poet, this verse strikes home. I know how much effort, thought, and care goes into each of my works.
Describe your family.
I have a very large family. I grew up as the middle child of three girls. My older sister, Lacee, is now married, and I have aquired one more. No brothers, only Todd, my brother-in-law. My wonderful dad, Jack, still lives in Snyder in the house I grew up in. My mom, Melinda, and my step-dad, Mike, live in Lubbock with JDee, my immediate younger sister, and Elizabeth, the newest addition to the family.
What do you enjoy most about working at KCRN?
I love working at KCRN because not only do I get to minister to people, but this station also ministers to me. Being a full time college student and working two jobs (I also work at Sonic on Knickerbocker) keeps me VERY busy. With such a hectic life, it's so helpful to have a job where I can listen to God's word the entire time. It helps me stay connected to God when things just seem so hectic. Being given my position here at the station truly was a blessing in disguise.
