Christian Women’s Job Corps of San Angelo will begin their Life Skills and Job Skills Training classes August 23. Call 658-4397 for night classes; call 653-0706 for day classes. This training is free and will help women acquire skills to find, get and keep a job.

Texas Department of State Health Services Immunization Clinic Wednesday, September 1, 10-12 AM and 1:30 – 3 PM, at the Wallace Center, 149 South Hwy 208, Colorado City. Please bring child’s immunization records to clinic. If your child has Medicaid or CHIP, please bring the card. FMI 325-754-4945

The ICD New Bridge Family Shelter is seeking sponsors for its annual Pack-A-Pack Program. The program matches sponsors with families that are served by the shelter. A school supply and clothing list for ICD families will be available for sponsors. People can also participate by bringing new school supplies or clothes to the shelter for families that are not adopted or that come to the shelter closer to the first day of school. The Department of Family and Protective Services is asking for our families here in San Angelo and the surrounding counties to consider the possibility of becoming foster/adoptive parents. We are currently in need of foster/adopt homes in this area. If you are interested we have information meetings every second Thursday of the month at the State office located at: 622 S. VistaCare is seeking hospice volunteers for San Angelo and the Concho Valley. Opportunities include patient support, administrative tasks, and bereavement support. Volunteers receive specialized training and excellent support. Call Donna at 481-0123.

ASU flute professor Dr. Constance Kelly has started a community flute ensemble that meets the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the ASU Band Hall. The ensemble is available to perform for community events. Call 942-2085, ext.239.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts sponsors Art Day each Thursday from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Educational Studio, with hands on activities for kids accompanied by their parents. The cost is $1 per child. Call 653-3333.

United Blood Services needs donors. Donors must be at least 16 years old, be in good health and meet the height and weight requirements. Donors who are 16 must bring the Minor Donor Permit form, signed by a parent or guardian, prior to donation. Call for an appointment at the center at 223-7500.

Tom Green County holds immunization clinics from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the San Angelo Tom Green County Health Department. Services are for all ages; Medicaid is accepted. Call 657-4214.

Dvar Emet Ministry is holding weekly seminars entitled The Hebrew Roots of Our Christian Faith; Understanding Christianity’s Connection with Israel, every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the San Angelo Ministerial Alliance Campus,1100 Martin Luther King Blvd. Call 245-7839.

The Ombudsman Program, a state sponsored program to help achieve the best possible quality of life for residents in Texas nursing homes and assisted living areas, has a need for volunteers. Call Managing Local Ombudsman, Kathy Schiller, at 223-5704 for more information.

The Concho Valley Rape Crisis Center, Inc. needs of volunteer victim advocates, who must be 18 years or older, pass a background check and have no felonies. A 30 hour certified training program is required and begins October 8th. Call 655-2000.

Support Groups


The Alzheimer’s Association has several support groups meeting in the Concho Valley area. They are geared toward care-givers and care-receivers and are in English, with Spanish available. Call for schedules and locations of meetings at 653-6641.

Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous, a support group for those with eating disorders, meets on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the second floor study room at Mary Massie Residence Hall at Angelo State University. Find out more at 650-4274.

Caregiver support classes are held the first Thursday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Area Agency on Aging, 2801 W. Loop 306, Suite A. Call Mary Palos at 223-5704.

PaulAnn Baptist Church hosts Celebrate Recovery every Thursday from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. This is a Bible-based, 12-step recovery program for adults 18 years and over and is open to the community. People can start at any time. Call 655-7552.

‘Dialogue’ is a support group for those with or affected by cancer and is open to all patients and/or family members and friends. The group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the American Cancer Society, 3228 College Hills Blvd. Find out more at 944-2500.

Southland Baptist Church is partnering with the Adult Literacy Council and hosting free classes to individuals who want to learn English. The classes are Wednesday nights from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. For more information, call 657-0013.

New Life Support Group is a ministry for families of the incarcerated and for those returning home and meets every Sunday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in Room 12 at St. Joseph’s Parish. Call 227-2944 to find out more.

Community Bible Study

* The Community Bible Study Daytime Class for women meets at Southland Baptist Church on Wednesday mornings beginning September 2nd, 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. for worship and music, group study, and a lecture. This year the study will cover the book of Luke. The teaching director is Karla Masters, and there is also a children's program or childcare option. Call 227-6025.

* The Community Bible Study Evening Class for couples and singles meets at The Heights Church, 4512 Sherwood Way, from 7:00-8:30 pm every Monday night beginning August 31.
